The movement of young migrants and unaccompanied children through the Sahara Desert continues to have a devastating toll on human life. In Niger, migrant and refugee children are the most vulnerable to human trafficking, abuse and sexual exploitation during the journey. Agadez, north of Niger, is the last stronghold before entering into the earth's largest hot desert, the Sahara. Former epicenter of the Transaharan trade, the Region of Agadez borders Algeria on one side and Libya on the other.

‘Tourism stopped coming to Agadez. The migration business was the alternative for the people of Agadez’ says the guardian of the Old Mosque of Agadez, in the heart of the city. This geographical position makes the city of Agadez a migratory center for the countries of sub-Saharan Africa going to Europe and the Maghreb. Several networks and migration routes have been created to allow the passage of thousands of migrants through the desert.
